Hawaii (HI) Teen Auto Insurance Laws, Rates & Requirements
Hawaii joined the mainland states in early 2006, when it adopted the Graduated Driver Licensing system. Under the old system, Hawaii teens could obtain a restriction free driver’s license at age 16. Today, Hawaii teens are not eligible for unrestricted driving privileges until the age of 17. Hawaii has also added a new law to its Graduated Licensing System, all teens must complete 30 hours of classroom instruction in order to obtain a driver’s license. The law became effective January 9, 2006. Since then, Hawaii has seen a 27% decrease in teen auto accidents. |
